Samsung is going to assemble more of its camera modules on its own next year

The trend for smartphones with multiple cameras has been around for several years. Of course, this is not the main must-have for a modern smartphone, but we can say with certainty that this trend will continue for a long time. The reason for this is that the original equipment manufacturers believe that their cameras are one of the main differentiating factors between brands and models.

In the near future, Samsung has no plans to stop the trend for triple/quad cameras. Moreover, the company is introducing some changes to its supply chain in order to reduce production costs and increase its own sales of camera modules.

Most Galaxy smartphones with triple/quad cameras released in 2020 feature sensors assembled by Samsung's partner suppliers. The suppliers of camera components are seeing significant growth in profits as competition in the mid-range smartphone segment continues to heat up. At the same time, smartphone manufacturers are experiencing a decline in profitability due to over-reliance on external sources of these expensive camera modules.

To cut such financial costs, Samsung decided to abandon some of its suppliers. Next year, the company is going to assemble a much larger number of camera modules on its own. It is quite natural that this will affect its suppliers in one way or another. Such change in strategy may benefit some Samsung suppliers as they will receive larger orders for parts from Samsung. Other companies that profit primarily from Samsung triple/quad cameras assembly, on the other hand, will suffer significant losses.
