Samsung's share in the Canadian smartphone market goes up

Samsung holds a significant share of the Western smartphone market. Recently, the company managed to surpass Apple in the US for the first time in several years. Samsung's market share in Canada is now reported to have increased by one percent in the third quarter of 2020 compared to the same period last year. According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung had a 33% market share in Canada in the third quarter of 2020, while a market share in the third quarter of 2019 was 32%. The rise in sales of Samsung smartphones was driven by strong demand for the Galaxy A51, the Galaxy A71, the Galaxy Note 20 series, and the Galaxy S10 series. Pent-up demand due to the pandemic also contributed to a 13% year-on-year increase in smartphone sales in Canada.

And while Apple remains a leader in the Canadian smartphone market, its market share went down by 3% compared to Q3 2019. Now Apple holds 53% of the Canadian smartphone market. LG was ranked third, and its market share increased to 4%, while in the third quarter of 2019, it was only 3%. Six of Apple's smartphones made it to the top 10 best-selling smartphones in Canada, with the iPhone 11 getting the first position. Samsung's smartphones took the other four positions. Apple's market share in Canada is going to increase with the release of the iPhone 12 series. To withstand the competition from the new iPhones, Samsung is going to release the Galaxy S21 series in January 2021.
