Samsung and Microsoft signed an agreement to collaborate on cloud-based private 5G solutions

This isn't the first time Samsung will partner with Microsoft. They already have such common projects as Office 365 and Xbox. Now the two companies have joined forces to drive innovation in end-to-end, cloud-based private 5G network solutions.

As a part of the collaboration, Samsung plans to deploy 5G vRAN (Virtualized Radio Access Network), Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) technologies, and virtualized Core on Microsoft Azure. Azure is expected to provide better security, which is crucial for enterprises, including retail stores, smart factories, and all kinds of entertainment venues. This collaboration is aimed at accelerating 5G expansion for enterprises and helping them deploy private 5G networks faster. The solution should improve networks' cost-effectiveness as dedicated hardware-based baseband is replaced with general-purpose off-the-shelf servers.

Samsung is now working hard to expand its network market share. The company already successfully provides many different 5G end-to-end solutions such as chipset, radio, and core network. Samsung is also deepening its collaboration on the expansion of 5G in such markets as the U.S.(Verizon), Japan (KDDI), Canada (Telus), as well as Korea and New Zealand.
