Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 888 processor during the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020 on December 1st. And although Samsung was not mentioned in the list of brands that will use the new chipset, it turns out that the Galaxy S21 will come with the new Snapdragon chipset.
According to the data from Geekbench, the Galaxy S21 (SM-G991U) uses a chipset called "Lahaina", which is the codename for the Snapdragon 888 processor. That variant of the Galaxy S21 uses an octa-core processor with a base frequency of 1.8 GHz, as well as 8 GB RAM and Android 11. The phone got 1075 points in the single-core test and 2916 points in the multi-core test.
The Galaxy S21 is rumored to come with a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. There may be several variants of the phone for different countries: with the Exynos 2100 SoC or with the Snapdragon 888. The upcoming flagship could have 8GB/12GB RAM, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and a slot for a microSD card. The Galaxy S21 could also feature 5G, UWB, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, USB Type-C port, as well as a 4,000mAh battery, an in-display fingerprint reader, fast charging, fast wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, stereo speakers, and Samsung Pay.
As for the camera setup, the Galaxy S21 is rumored to get a triple camera, namely a 12MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 64MP telephoto lens. All the cameras supposedly support 4K 60fps video recording with Super Steady Stabilization. The Galaxy S21 could also record 8K video at 30fps. The main camera is also rumored to automatically switch between 30fps and 60fps video recording modes depending on the lighting conditions.
