The sanctions imposed by the US government on Huawei have affected not only the Chinese company. While Samsung's smartphone business gained a big advantage over its competitor, the company also lost an important client in the display and chip manufacturing area. Samsung had to stop shipping memory chips and OLED panels to Huawei. Therefore, the South Korean company has requested approval from the US government to re-establish a business relationship with Huawei as its client. It looks like Samsung has obtained official approval from the US government to supply components to Huawei. Now, Samsung's Display division will be able to supply OLED panels to Huawei.
Samsung is not the only company to receive such approval following the imposition of sanctions against Huawei. AMD and Intel have also reportedly received similar approvals to supply processors for Huawei's computers and servers. Perhaps the reason the US government has granted the license is that the display panels are less sensitive. Besides, Huawei can get panels from BOE. The Chinese company is still struggling to get memory chips. Apparently, it may not significantly increase Huawei's orders for Samsung display panels.
