Samsung's Tizen is the largest TV streaming platform worldwide

Tizen is a Linux-based operating system developed by Samsung. The company uses it in its smart TVs, smart monitors, and smartwatches. According to the latest data, Tizen is the world's largest TV streaming platform, with 12.5% โ€‹โ€‹of connected TV devices worldwide.

According to Strategy Analytics, Samsung achieved the best quarterly results ever, with 11.8 million TVs sold worldwide in Q3 2020. Moreover, the use of Tizen-powered smart TVs has increased by 23% compared to 2019. There are currently over 155 million Tizen-based smart TVs in use around the world. The global market for connected TV devices, including smart TVs, streaming media players, and game consoles, has also increased by 19% compared to last year. In the third quarter of 2020, it reached 81.3 million units. The overall TV sales in 2020 are expected to grow 7% over 2019 due to the launch of new game consoles and, of course, the pandemic restrictions.

Samsung's focus is currently shifting towards monetizing Tizen on its smart TVs promising advertisers and content providers more viewers. Samsung has also recently released its free linear TV streaming platform Samsung TV+ for Galaxy smartphones.
