The Galaxy S20 Ultra was designed as the top-of-the-range camera phone. Of the entire line of flagship Galaxy S20 smartphones, it stands out with unique specifications that allow it to take amazing photos. Its most outstanding feature is the high-resolution 108MP sensor due to which you can take zoomed-in pictures without losing details. But unfortunately, compared to the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+ with their 12-megapixel camera, the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a fairly noticeable disadvantage: its main camera does not allow you to focus on objects that are very close to the camera. The problem lies in the hardware and is associated with a longer focal length. Therefore, it cannot be fixed with software.
To solve this problem, Samsung introduced a new camera feature with the May update of Galaxy S20 Ultra. Now every time you approach too close to an object and the device cannot focus correctly, it will display the "Use close-up zoom" toggle. This toggle sets the zoom level to 1.5x, which allows you to take a close-up photo without having to bring the smartphone very close to an object. And this is all thanks to the fact that the camera boasts 108 megapixels, so you can take clear and sharp macro photos at 1.5x zoom without losing picture quality. It is worth noting that this is not an innovative feature. You could already use it on your smartphone to take macro shots. The update just made this process more automated.
Both the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+ don't have this "close-up zoom" feature. There are two obvious reasons for this. The reason number one is that these models don't have such issues with autofocus compared to the Ultra model, and the reason number two is that the 12-megapixel resolution is not a good prerequisite for high-quality photos taken at 1.5x zoom.
