Gear S3 and the Gear Sport

It was announced earlier that Samsung decided to stop the work of its old S Voice assistant. Although S Voice cannot be considered as a full-fledged predecessor of Bixby, since it was not a conversational assistant, it still did some stuff in response to voice commands. Since the launch of Bixby in 2018, Samsung has stopped equipping its new devices with S Voice. Also, from June 1, 2020, it will stop working on devices that already have it.

Samsung decided to replace S Voice with Bixby on the Gear S3 and the Gear Sport, launched in 2016 and 2017, respectively. The Gear S3 Classic, the Gear S3 Frontier and the Gear Sport were shipped with S Voice. This function allowed users to receive answers to questions, set reminders and alarms, manage schedule, and much more using voice commands.

Although both the Gear S3 and the Gear Sport are on the list of devices that will lose support for S Voice on June 1, 2020, it is expected that, unlike the rest of the smartphones and tablets from this list, they will get Bixby instead with the upcoming software update.

Owners of smartwatches that came after them do not need to worry. Bixby is already available on the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Watch Active. The rest of Samsung’s more recent smartwatches already come with Bixby.

Unfortunately, it is not yet known when Samsung will release this software update for the Gear S3 and the Gear Sport. Despite this, the owners of these smartwatches can be sure that they will be using Bixby before S Voice stops working.
